How I Finally Snagged That Annoying Catalyst
Man, hunting for the Wicked Implement Catalyst in Destiny 2? Total pain in the butt. Everyone kept saying “Final Shape” but gave zero concrete answers. Started simple: just wandering around everywhere in Pale Heart, shooting anything that moved, hoping it’d drop like candy. Obviously, got nada. Zero. Zilch. Was ready to throw my controller through the screen.
Heard a random Guardian mention “The Blooming Deep” area. Sounded fancy, so I headed straight there. Saw some big hive-looking caves and these dumb little glowing platforms. Jumped around like an idiot for ages. Found some weird green critters hiding under rocks. Shot ’em. Got some boring materials. Still no catalyst. Spent probably two hours just dying to gravity or missing jumps. Pure frustration.
Then, almost gave up. Was about to log off when some guy in a Fireteam chat mumbled something about a patrol. A patrol? Seriously? That’s it? He swore it was an “Ascendant Scythe” patrol near a giant waterfall. Didn’t sound right, but what did I have to lose? Flew back to The Blooming Deep. Looked harder. Down near a big canyon thing, next to a massive waterfall, spotted the patrol beacon. Picked it up – “Ascendant Scythe.”
The actual annoying part: The patrol told me to “defeat powerful threats.” Meaning, run around the immediate area clearing out absolutely everything, waves of enemies. Hive, Scorn, whatever popped up. Cleared trash mobs. Cleared bigger yellow bars. Was starting to think it was another dead end, just busywork. Then, finally, the big red “Ultra” health bar appeared on my HUD. A Tormentor spawned. Big, scary, charging at me. Panic-moded my Super, dumped heavy ammo into it. Took it down.
Poof! Glowing chest dropped right on top of its corpse. Opened it expecting more junk. But there it was:
- The Catalyst. Plain white text, looked exactly like any other useless drop… but it was IT. Done.
Honestly felt kinda stupid after. All that rage, wandering lost for days, just to be stuck doing a random patrol event? Pretty sure I messed it up the first time by wiping the enemies too fast before the Tormentor triggered, wasted another run. Typical Destiny stuff. The “Final Shape” hype had me looking in impossible secret raids or something, but nah. Patrol beacon near a waterfall. Go figure. If you’re stuck? Just camp that Ascendant Scythe patrol spot in Blooming Deep and kill everything relentlessly. The Tormentor shows up eventually. Don’t overthink it like I did.
