Alright, so I decided to give this thing a shot today, something I stumbled upon connected to a guy named Kyle Burnham. It was about simplifying your daily tasks, sounded pretty straightforward.

So, first thing this morning, instead of my usual mess of a to-do list that stretches onto three pages, I actually tried what I read. The idea was, just pick three main things. That’s it. Three. Felt kinda weird, honestly. Like I was forgetting something important. My desk usually looks like a hurricane hit it, notes everywhere, but today, just one clean sheet with three bullet points.
Getting Started
I picked what seemed like the biggest hurdles for the day. You know, the stuff you dread doing.
- First task: Finish that report I kept putting off.
- Second task: Make those calls I didn’t want to make.
- Third task: Clear out my inbox, which was overflowing.
Sat down with my coffee. Tackled the report first. Surprisingly, without fifty other things nagging at me from the list, I actually zoned in pretty well. Got it done faster than I thought, before lunch even. Felt pretty good about that, not gonna lie.
The Midday Slump
Then came the phone calls. Ugh. This is where things got a bit sticky. Put the first call off for a bit, grabbed another coffee. Made one call, wasn’t too bad. Then the second… that one dragged on. By the time I hung up, I felt drained. Looked at the clock, and a chunk of the afternoon was gone.
Distractions started creeping in. Checked emails (even though that was task #3!), saw some other stuff that seemed urgent. The ‘just three things’ rule started to feel a bit… flimsy. My old habits of jumping between tasks kicked back in.

Wrapping Up
Ended up only half-clearing the inbox. Task number three wasn’t really finished. So, two out of three done properly. Better than some days, I guess, but not the super-productive miracle I kinda hoped for after the strong start.
Thinking about it now, maybe the problem isn’t just the list. Maybe it’s my focus, or maybe I need a bit more flexibility than just three rigid items. It felt good nailing that first big task, though. That focus was real. Need to figure out how to keep that going past noon.
I’ll probably give it another go tomorrow. Maybe pick slightly smaller ‘big three’ tasks? Or maybe build in short breaks between them. Still experimenting here, just trying to find something that clicks better than my usual chaos.
