My ‘Tour’ Kinda Shifted Gears
Anyway, my little research project, my ‘tour’, it started to become less about just facts and dates. I started thinking about the sheer amount of work. From being a kid in Dorchester, to that hip-hop group, then the modeling, and then breaking into acting. You don’t just stumble into that kind of career. That takes some serious drive. He’s also pretty active with charity, like The Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women and Children, which is something, I suppose.
It’s funny how these things go. This whole ‘tour’ idea started just from him moving to Nevada. And it made me think about big moves in my own life. Not to Vegas, and definitely not with Wahlberg’s kind of money, believe me. I was stuck in this job once, years ago. Felt like I was just running in place, you know? Just grinding away, day in, day out, for not much at all. Felt like my brain was turning to mush.
I remember this one Tuesday, it was raining, everything felt grey. I was just staring out the office window, watching the cars splash by, and it hit me. But looking back now? Best thing I ever did for myself. Scary as all hell at the time, but it shook everything up in a way I desperately needed. So, when I read about Wahlberg making a big life change, even though his world is miles apart from mine, I kind of get that itch, that feeling of needing to steer your own ship. Maybe this whole ‘Mark Wahlberg tour’ wasn’t really about him in the end. Maybe it was just me, turning things over in my own head, thinking about the roads we take. You start off looking at one thing, and it ends up shining a light right back on yourself.
